Instead, Oldham are one of four clubs that have received a "bye" through to round two. The Football League informed Latics Chief Executive Alan Hardy on Wednesday that Athletic, along with Tranmere Rovers, Northampton Town and Swindon Town, would progress to Round 2 without playing a match.
The first round draw will take place on Saturday, and the first round matches will commence on the 28th and 29th September.
In the Carling Cup, Alan Hardy, skipper Dean Holden and manager Brian Talbot have expressed their delight at the prospect of playing Premiership giants Spurs. Chief exec Hardy has said that the draw is "wonderful exposure for the club".
Brian Talbot is looking forward to duelling with the former World Cup winning manager Jacques Santini. "You couldn't ask any more than facing a big Premiership club at home...It's a big opportunity for us in front of a big Boundary Park crowd.
And while Holden is pleased with the draw, he says that Oldham have to concentrate on our League games before the cup tie. "It's a big week for us with Saturday's game at MK Dons, and the Bank Holiday clash at Hillsborough.
