The Latics suffered another massive blow on Saturday as they went out of the FA Cup 1-0 at Sheffield United, thus depriving them of much needed revenue from the third round of the cup. They also lost out on a £27,000 payout for reaching the next round. David Dunn tried to look for positives from the defeat, but excuses are wearing thin, particularly among the fans.
Dunn commented, “I thought the goal was sloppy to give away but I don’t have too many complaints, certainly after last week. There was criticism about the desire and commitment, certainly some of it a little unfair, but today I couldn’t question it one little bit. I was really proud at how they performed. The battling qualities you need to come to a place like this against a really good side was very unlucky to at least get something out the game. We had the better chances, hitting the post in the first half and Cassidy’s header is a big chance for us. I’ve just said to them that if they perform like that every week then we will quickly start climbing the league table.”
“Jake Cassidy will be disappointed as well all are but I thought for his first 90 minutes to come back and put a performance in like that was exceptional. There is no criticism from me in terms of his performance."
