The Latics are monitoring the current negotiations between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City. The two Premiership teams are in contract talks over ex-Latics youngster Micah Richards who is expected to make the move south to London. Figures of £5 million are being mentioned for the teenage striker who stared his career at Boundary Park at then joined City at the tender age of 14. When City took the youngster, Athletic made sure that they had a built-in safeguard if the teenager made it big. A sell-on clause for any future transfer means that the Latics could receive a handy windfall that could well be into six figures.

Richards is now 18 and has played 14 games for City scoring one goal and has endeared himself with the City fans. It is rumoured that Chelsea are also keeping an eye on Richards who still has two years of his contract at City to run. City have to decide whether to sell him now and make a handy profit or keep him and hope for an increase in his value which would escalate should he make it to international level as expected. Athletic will continue to monitor the situation.
