Latics go out of Youth Cup

Athletic's Under 18's team lost 2-1 to a strong Newcastle United side at St James' Park in the FA Youth Cup. Ryan Brooke scored a brilliant equaliser to nullify Kazenga Lua Lua's goal that gave United the lead. Extra time looked inevitable and the young Latics side were on track for a shock result but Kazenga popped up again to score the winner for the hosts with just three minutes remaining on the clock.
Schoolboy Leroy Chinthengah did get the ball in the net near the end but it was cruelly ruled offside. The Newcastle youngsters had won eight straight games going into the tie and the Latics youth can be proud of the show they put up against their Premier League counterparts.
