Latics back poppy appeal
Last updated : 08 November 2006 By The Chairman
The Latics are backing the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal with a unique way of raising funds. On Saturday they visit Conference North League team Kettering Town for the FA Cup First Round game. Saturday will be exactly 88 years on from the day that the guns fell silent on Armistice Day. As Kettering are known as the "Poppies", all 16 of the Latics squad will be wearing a unique (blue home) shirt that will be embroidered with a poppy logo. The shirts will be individually signed by the player and after the game they will be auctioned off from the Official Oldham Athletic website. The bidding begins at the reserve price of £40 and it gives fans a chance to own what may well become a collectors item for the future.
Chief Executive Alan Hardy (pictured) said, "The Royal British Legion carries out extremely worthy work with the money it raises. Oldham Athletic are delighted to assist in raising vital funds". It is a real feather in the cap of the Latics to promote this venture with all proceeds from the auction being donated to the appeal. The deadline for bids is 17th. November.
