Killen ends goal drought

Chris Killen’s goal at Notts County ended a run of four games without finding the net, although he had had three efforts disallowed. A relieved Killen said, “I was beginning to think it wouldn't come because I'd already had chances with a header in the first half and a shot which I think hit the post. But then the ball fell to me from Josh Low and I just stuck it away."

"We have been working a lot on the movement up front, which wasn't the case at the start of the season. It's starting to show now and hopefully we'll carry on playing like that. I'd been taken off in the other games, but I had a word with the manager and he said it was nothing against me, just that he wanted to try something different. It's good to get the win because we were terrible last week and, for me, it was probably the worst game I'd ever played.”

After the Jekyll (Wycombe) and Hyde (Notts County) performances manager Iain Dowie confided, “You live and die off your front men, so it was great to see them play so well. I've spoken to Chris at length and I'm a great believer in
him because he gets across people and, at only 20, he has so much potential. Our hold-up play was phenomenal, especially Clyde Wijnhard with his tremendous upper-body strength. Clyde beats people up because he is so physical and I thought he was a colossal presence."

"The difference from last week was that we passed the ball well and it was generally an outstanding footballing performance. I don't want to go over the top, but John Sheridan said after the game that our tempo and passing speed were what killed them. It's important to react well to disappointment, and keeping their forwards quiet was a big effort by our back three. I'm also very pleased for Darren Sheridan. He has been out for weeks but kept himself super-fit and came back with a fantastic performance.”
