The Latics have been boosted by the news that Neil Kilkenny and Mark Hughes will be allowed to remain at Boundary Park for another month on loan. Brian Talbot said, “I would like to place on record my appreciation to Birmingham City and Tottenham Hotspur for agreeing to extend the loans of Neil Kilkenny and Mark Hughes. They have both made a significant contribution during the month that they have been here and I hope that their stay helps with the development of their career.” Both will be eligable to play in the FA Cup game when the Latics entertain Premiership neighbours Manchester City.

Kilkenny will be 19 on Sunday and has not been on a losing side since joining the Latics. Since making his debut Hughes has put in some sterling performances in midfield and is also in a position to say that he has not been on a losing side.

On another subject the Latics did not get their match against City as a live TV game but can take compensation in the fact that the game will be one of the featured ties on BBC Match of the Day on 8th. January. Although they lose out on the £150,000 fee for a live game they will pick up a cool £18,000 from the BBC for broadcasting fees.
