The Latics have signed Liam Kelly from Bristol City on a three-year contract. Kelly is a former teammate with Latics' manager Lee Johnson as the pair were in the same team at Kilmarnock in 2012. The move sees Korey Smith move in the opposite direction to play for Bristol.
Kelly expressed his delight about pairing up again and said, “I'm delighted to be here eventually. We've been talking about it over the summer and I've been in touch with the gaffer so we've managed to get it done. I'm pleased to come here and I'm just looking forward to playing again. We played together a year and a half ago for a season and we got on really well. We had a good combination in midfield so he was definitely a big factor in me coming here."
"I played with James Dayton for a few years at Kilmarnock and we got on really well. He's a fantastic player and he had a good season as well last season. I also know James Wilson who was at Bristol City so it's good to know a few lads when you are going into a new dressing room. I can have a positive influence on the team. I've played a lot of games in Scotland but unfortunately I've been injured over the last season but I just want to get back and play football. I hope the team can move forward from where we were last season and pick up some good results."
"We should be looking up towards the top six and there is no reason why we can't get there. There are some fantastic players in that dressing room and the gaffer is really driven so that's the attitude we've got in there and it's something we can achieve."
