Jarvis clears the air

Sean Jarvis has been talking about the current crisis at Boundary Park and said, “As much as we would like to provide our supporters with information it is very difficult at the moment to give any real concrete detail. There has been a lot of speculation in the local and national media regarding our club ... but it is just that... speculation. We have had some interest from a number of people including business individuals from a variety of backgrounds. Most of the individuals at this stage are gathering information on the club, including everything from the land, to contracts, to opportunities at Boundary Park. All we can do at this stage is give them information on Latics and inform them of this fantastic opportunity.”

“Unfortunately we are unable to reveal identities as all parties have asked for confidentiality. What's more in some cases the individuals have hired solicitors or accountants to undertake their 'due dilligence'. As I said all we can do is give them information. There have been a lot of interested parties. Almost on a daily basis we receive phone calls from people who are interested in Latics. Of course we have to deal with each one, no matter how big or small and again in strictest confidence. Curently there are arguably up to eight interested parties on varying degress of interest. That's really all we know. It is then up to the individuals to come forward and speak to our administrators.”

“There has been a lot of talk about the land at the club recently and a lot of the individuals want to know more about who owns the land, what is it available for etc. Once it becomes knowledge that an individual is keen on finding out about the land - a lot of incorrect conclusions can be and are often drawn. In a situation like ours we can't really say anything until a deal has been struck. It is very difficult to announce anything until it is actually, signed, sealed and delivered. I guess all I can say is that there are a lot of elements attached to the land including the Council, OPP, Oldham Athletic, PKF etc. etc. and all have to be satisfied that whatever is proposed is deliverable and can sustain football and rugby at Boundary Park.”

“I personally believe there is a fantastic opportunity at Boundary Park and somebody with vision can really take this club forward. There is a great ground-swell in the community for Latics and combined with a real desire to create a sporting and leisure hub for the community then there are no limits to where we can go. Over the Summer I was bombarded with phone calls from the press literally all over the country. To some degree that has now died down. However I am now dealing with the interested parties and providing them with information - so I am still busy just at the moment but my focus seems to have been shifted. As soon as our future is secured I can get on with other activities and rebuilding the commercial department and introducing some new exciting initiatives.”

“I don't want to be negative but the club is still in a critical situation. With no individual coming forward then it is extremely difficult. All I can ask is for supporters to continue to do their best for the club and support the Trust. I guess the best way is to turn up to Boundary Park on Saturday and Tuesday next week. The Business Advisory Group are a collection of individuals who are also doing their best for the club. In our first meeting it was very emotional with one businessman finding it difficult to talk becuase his emotions got the better of him as he thought about the prospect of losing the club. However there is a considearble amount of knowledge and contacts in the Business Advisory Group and they are doing their bit at the moment ot try and keep the club alive. I am supporting them in every way I can. It is crucial we all remain positive and channel our efforts to a positive outcome.”

“I am still in contact with the Trust on a regular basis. All I can say is that I would urge supporters to continue to support any event they are doing and continue to build those funds. In my heart of hearts I believe the club will come through this and our future is bright. All we have to do is remain positive in our outlook and channel our efforts correctly. And with a bumper crowd on Saturday, who knows with an investor watching our problems could be solved. As supporters say, Keep the Faith!"
