Athletic have undertaken a new initiative for the worldwide TV audience when they take on Leeds United at Boundary Park on 2nd. March. The Latics will be sporting a new pink coloured kit. The specially designed dazzling neon pink kit is especially made for one night only when the Sky TV cameras visit the club. The new kit is especially designed for all for the new Victoria Breast Unit at The Royal Oldham Hospital and the club will be breaking new ground as they are the first football team to completely change their home strip for a League game in order to support a charitable cause.
The manufacturers of Athletic's official strip (Carbrini) have agreed to manufacture a one off set of unique pink kits for the occasion, as well as a specially branded warm-up shirt which will be worn prior to the game. Miss Maria Bramley, Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon and her team at the Victoria Unit are looking to raise £250,000 to make additions to improve a patient's experience when they visit the Victoria Breast Unit on the Royal Oldham Hospital site. She said, "We are delighted that Oldham Athletic have proposed this exciting and unique venture and would like to sincerely thank them for helping us to realise our dream of extending the Victoria Uni."
The new Link 4 Pink campaign will attract a worldwide TV audience and is the new charity that Athletic heard of and they dicided to step in to help raise much needed funds. There will be volunteers at the Leeds game who will be will be making a bucket collection at the turnstiles. After the game, all the shirts will be auctioned off on the club's official website. Athletic's chief executive Alan Hardy said, "This initiative is in aid of a fantastic cause and we are delighted to be able to help. We would urge all supporters to get behind us as we look to raise as much money as possible for the breast care team, who give so much to the local community."
