Former Latics goalkeeper Harry Dowd passed away on Tuesday at the age of 76. Dowd was part of the promotion willing team who made it to the Third Division, and was signed by manager Jimmy Frizzell in his first full season in charge of the team.
The popular keeper will be remembered not just for his great keeping but also for his fantastic dribbling skills which he often displayed between the nets. He made a total of 121 appearances for the Latics between December 1970 and June 1974.
One minutes applause will be held in his memory prior to Saturdays game with Sheffield United and all the Latics players will wear black armbands during the game.
