Will Haining has been appointed the new captain of Oldham Athletic. With Chris Swailes sidelined through injury, Haining will take over the captaincy with immediate effect. He has fulfilled the role in the last couple of games and will retain the honour until Swailes returns from injury.

John Sheridan said, "I think Will makes a good captain. I prefer defenders as captains and I think Will thrives on the extra responsibility."

23 year old Haining added, "I like the extra responsibility that comes with being captain and although there's a little bit of extra pressure, you have to look out for everyone else and keep them on their toes, I'm looking forward to being captain, and I hope I can keep the armband until Chris comes back."
