Griffin to have his contract renewed

Adam Griffin is one of the lucky players to be staying with the Latics for another year at least. The 19-year-old defender has been virtually an ever-present since breaking into the side in December.

Griffin has an option to renew his deal before the end of May and Brian Talbot said, “It helps when you are the only left-back at the club, but Adam is in the team on merit. He is a determined lad with a bit of pace and he is strong when he makes a challenge. One thing I like is that he always wants the ball, which is good for a young player, especially in our league situation. He has been consistent, and that’s pleasing when you consider he hadn’t started a league game before this season. His attitude is good as well – I took the back four swimming the other day and when I asked Adam whether he prefers left-back or left midfield, he said it didn’t matter as long as he was playing. Maybe he’ll be a midfield player one day, but I’m happy with his level of performance.”

A total of eighteen players need to have their future decided and they are Mark Bonner, Danny Boshell, Ernie Cooksey, Steve Corry, Dean Crowe, David Eyres, Danny Forde, Adam Griffin, Will Haining, Danny Hall, Jermaine Johnson, Paul Murray, Les Pogliacomi, Darren Sheridan, Marc Tierney, Keiren Westwood, Wes Wilkinson and Calvin Zola.
