Penney said, "The reason why Sean left was purely a financial one and not a footballing one. Everyone has to cut their cloth accordingly in times like these. He hadn't got himself fixed up anywhere and I'm glad we've been able to come to an agreement. He has a lot of experience and that's important because we've got a very young squad here. Some supporters may ask why we have resigned Sean but, as I've said before, the reason he was released was not a footballing decision. He did very well under Joe Royle at the end of last season and people must remember that. He has impressed me with his attitude and fitness levels."
"Sean is a great professional. He has done well for this football club. But I want to freshen things up and put my own stamp on the team. I am looking for young, hungry, fit and athletic players."
