Good news from Spurs defeat

The only good news from the Spurs defeat is that Athletic will pick up at least £80,000 from the game. The season’s best gate of 8,548 combined with revenue from sales and television means that the burden will be eased on the Latics, who are resigned to making losses for at least another two years. The excellent news was that there were over 7,000 home fans who braved the weather to watch the game live.
Alan Hardy (pictured) said, “Considering it was a foul night and there was live television coverage, the attendance was good. The away following was what we expected and our own fans created a good atmosphere. Hopefully, people will come out in force again on Saturday because anyone who saw the game will realise we competed with Spurs for a long time.”
