Anthony Gee has joined the Board of Directors at Boundary Park. Gee left the corporate world at 29 and to set up a concierge/lifestyle management business which he sold 12 years later. He also runs a football consultancy business and manages a worldwide distribution company as well as being a director of an LED lighting start up business in the U.S. Gee also develops property as well as being a Latics' fan who has followed the club for some years.
He said, "I am absolutely delighted to be joining the board of Oldham Athletic. As a regular visitor over the last three or four years I am fully aware of the hugely prestigious history of the Latics and it’s standing in the game. Although I grew up supporting Arsenal, I remember standing in the away end behind the goal on many occasions in the 90s and have witnessed my team getting absolutely battered by Andy Ritchie almost single handedly. I could never forget one particular night which was probably the coldest I have ever felt at a football match. Like many others, I believe the Premier League has become a giant corporation and many of the clubs within the Premier League have lost touch with their roots. Many fans have become disillusioned with their boyhood clubs and clubs continue to this day to take their fan base for granted. Premier League players have become more and more aloof from the public and fan events are now staged to such an extent that minimal if any contact is allowed between players and fans."
"This situation is not the case at Oldham. I love the fact that Oldham Athletic have managed to retain their status as a family and community club and the fans can feel much more a part of the club than some of our bigger local rivals. Our supporters are the lifeblood of the club, each and every one of you can have a big part in ensuring that our club starts to climb the long ladder back to reclaiming our place at the top table of football. This can be achieved without losing the spirit of our club and it is this that will drive me on in my cherished role as a Director. I am an ambitious and motivated individual and I would only be joining the board if I felt I could make a difference. I will work extremely hard to achieve my aims and to fulfil the potential of our club. I look forward to meeting many of our supporters in person at future games and club events."
