Furman sets his sights on the World Cup

Midfielder Dean Furman appears to be an unlikely addition to the Bafana Bafana squad at next year's World Cup. He was born in Cape Town to South African parents and was called up to the squad for a friendly against Australia in August 2008. Furman said, "It was a great honour to be selected last time and to join up with the squad for one match has made me want it more now. Being involved was a great experience for me and I really enjoyed my few days with them. With the World Cup coming up it's obviously a massive opportunity. It's difficult being on the other side of the world but I can only hope that someone is watching."

"At this stage of my career I thought it was important to stay over here. I was offered another contract at Rangers but I didn't see myself getting the chance to be in the team very much so when Oldham showed an interest I was pretty keen to make the move. I played a lot of games for Bradford last season and that gave me the appetite to be playing every week. It's gone well - we've had an indifferent start to the season but I'm sure the results will start to improve soon. There are some massive teams in League One at the moment like Leeds, Charlton and Southampton. I'm not really too sure what the standard is like in the PSL but the South African squad has some very talented players such as Aaron Mokoena and Steven Pienaar. I feel South African because it's the country of my birth. I've still got a lot of family out there and it would mean a lot to me to represent them. Hopefully I can put performances in and do enough to come under consideration."
