Latics captain Dean Furman has left the club to sign on loan for Doncaster Rovers. The deal will bring in a substantial fee for the club.
Furman is 24-years-old and the midfielder has swapped a battle against relegation for the chance of a promotion bid with the Rovers.
Furman was due to leave on a free transfer in the summer but the Latics will pick up a cash payment for the player. Chairman Simon Corney is keen to cash in now but the move does not sit well with the fans.
Corney said, “He will have the opportunity to play at a higher level next season - and he goes with our blessing.”
James Wesolowski will take over the role as skipper of the club.
