Dave Penney said, "You can't argue with Dean's pedigree - Chelsea and Rangers, while also being on the brink of breaking into the South Africa team. He's a good age, got some good experience with Bradford and is ready to step up a level with us. I'm pleased we were able to agree a compensation figure with Rangers and we're well-stocked in central midfield now with Danny Whitaker, Jon Worthington, Rob Purdie and Dale Stephens."
"I know Bradford were very keen [to keep Furman] and that says something about Dean. But once we'd spoken to Dean I knew he'd come here. He did very well with Bradford and I'm confident he will continue his progress at the higher level."
The full Athletic squad began pre-season training yesterday and Dave Penney has been pleased with the progress he has seen in the first session.
