Richie Wellens was disappointed after the match at Blackburn on Saturday after his side took a 2-0 half time lead, only to be pegged back in the second half to earn one point instead of three. Duckens Nazon, keeping to his ‘killer’ promise, scored both of the goals but the sending off of Wilfried Moimbe had a big bearing on the outcome of the game. Although disappointed with the result Wellens was happy with the performance of his players.
He commented, “It was a great advert for League One football as both teams played really well and played some good football. There was energy, passion, commitment and real quality from both teams. If you had asked me before the game if I would have taken a point, then I would. Along with Wigan, I think they are the best team in the league. The defining part of the game was the free kick which goes into the top corner. You have to give them credit for coming back into the game but I thought all game we were really good. They went for it and caused us problems but I thought everyone was outstanding.”
“Credit to the club. The percentage of our away support to our home support is one of the best in the country. It makes me proud that the supporters come here and support the club that way because the atmosphere was brilliant. The players take confidence from that when players are singing their names. It keeps a little bit of momentum going. If you concede in the last minute today it is a sickener but we didn’t and it’s a really good point so we take confidence going into the game on Tuesday night [at home to Franchise FC].”
