Eyres said, “There was a contract on the table a while ago, but it was withdrawn when all the off-field problems blew up. It has been tempting to accept another offer because none of us knew what would happen here, but I wanted to give the club as long as possible. The gaffer says things might be sorted by Wednesday, and I hope that happens because I need match fitness. I’m joining in all the training, but it would be risky to play any games until I’m under contract. As far as I’m concerned, it can’t come soon enough.”
Eyres set to re-sign new contract

Along with with Eyres, four ex-youth team players (Danny Hall, Adam Griffin, Danny Forde and Marc Tierney) are all expected to sign contracts soon. Ex-Chesham player Ernie Cooksey is currently on trial and if he continues to
impress he too could be offered a contract. Iain Dowies main priorities are to sign a new goalkeeper and a striker.
Free agents John Eyre (at Scunthorpe), Clyde Wijnhard (at Grimsby) and Julien Baudet (at Rotherham) are possibly on the way out of the club.
Striker Chris Killen is making a good recovery from a stress fracture he received on his return to pre-season training. Killen still needs to have an x-ray but he hopes to be all clear to step up training in preparation for the new season. David Beharall will have to undergo surgery on his knee next week and is expected to be out of action for approximately six weeks.
