England star backs the Latics

Self confessed Latics fan and England midfielder Paul Scholes is backing the Trust Oldham campaign. Scholes is currently out of action with a hernia problem and as one of the most famous names in world football he will become a figurehead for the survival of Athletic alongside former Latics player and manager Jimmy Frizzell.

Scholes lives in Saddleworth and still gets to as many games as he can. He prefers to watch the team from his sacred Chaddy End. Of the Latics current plight he said, “It’s upsetting to see the club having such a bad time. I’ve been a fan ever since my dad used to take me, and when you’ve watched a team for so many years you want to help. It would be great to see them get over these problems and, hopefully, move on from there.”
