Courtney Duffus, the striker who has been on loan at League of Ireland side Waterford FC since March, sees his loan period end on November 30th when then Irish transfer window opens. This makes him ineligible to play for the Latics until January 1st 2019 when the UK transfer window opens, and then the club will have to obtain international clearance before he can play. Duffus scored 10 goals in eight appearances at Waterford with his last appearance coming in a 2-1 defeat to Dundalk on October 12th. It’s a ridiculous state of affairs.
Richard Cooper, the club secretary, commented, “Due to Courtney’s loan being with a club outside of England we will have to await the reopening of the UK transfer window before we can apply for the return of Courtney’s international clearance. This is not possible outside of the transfer window, however Courtney will be training with the club but he won’t able to appear in first team fixtures until this is obtained.”
