After his worst ever defeat as Athletic manager Iain Dowie mused, “I’ve said to the lads in there my feelings and they will remain in the dressing room. I hope it hurts like it hurts me. It burns in my soul. It’s like someone wants to rip my stomach out. It’s important that we look not at ourselves but how we approach things. I’m going to look at what I’ve done this week, how we approach it and how the system works. I thought the system worked quite well. We mixed it a little bit tonight but they were very, very poor defensive errors. All the goals could have been avoided."
"Wrexham will say they were good goals but I think to be fair to Denis (Smith, the Wrexham manager), he’ll be honest enough to say that it wasn’t great defending. They were not outstanding moves. It was poor defensive errors from us. We can’t keep doing them. We’re conceding too many goals and it isn’t good enough. It was totally unacceptable and showed how much we need a strong character in the back four. Some of the things we did were absolute madness and I’ll look to bring in reinforcements very quickly.”
An apology to the long suffering fans who made the trip to north Wales wouldn't go amiss either, Mr. Dowie!
