Dowie backs Pogliacomi

Iain Dowie has responded saying that the referee’s decision was “totally unjust” regarding the sending off of Les Pogliacomi for violent conduct in the Brentford game. Poggi will miss three games including the crunch match at Cardiff if the referee does not change his mind and Dowie has no doubt in his mind that the big Aussie is innocent.

After the match the referee had to be escorted off the field by stewards and police. After watching a video of the event the Latics camp stated, “Regulations don’t allow us to ask the referee to review his decision. But when he sits down and views a tape of the match, we are sure he will take a close look at the incident involving Les Pogliacomi. If he feels he has made a mistake, then we hope he will contact the FA.”

Of the incident, Dowie said, “Les is distraught because he was simply reaching across a much smaller player. He definitely didn’t throw an elbow at anybody’s head, it just isn’t in his nature to do something like that.”
