After the 4-0 drubbing of Swindon Iain Dowie fears no-one in the play-offs. The third team plays the sixth and the fourth team plays the fifth.
Dowie said, “I don’t care who we get in the play-offs. We can beat any side in this division. We are going to meet an excellent team whatever happens, and they will be a bigger club too. We are the smallest in there because we have less financial backing, but on the pitch we are a match for anyone. It’s pleasing that we have gone up to third place and I want us to stay there by winning at Huddersfield."
"The lads can enjoy this feeling because they deserve it after all their hard work, but there are tough games ahead and they will be back in at 8.15 on Monday morning. The second division has been very strong this year — it’s hard to believe that Tranmere can finish with 80 points and not even get in the play-offs. But all we’ve done so far is establish ourselves as one of the best teams in our division. We have to keep pushing forward because this is no time to pat ourselves on the back."
"I thought Swindon were potentially difficult opponents, and I must admit we were edgy while the game was 0-0. We got up a head of steam after the first goal and were outstanding in the rest of the half. Four goals flattered us, but I’m not complaining because we played some really great football. It’s all about the players really, but qualifying for the play-offs is an emotional moment for me personally. It was nice to be out there afterwards with my son William on my shoulders and my mum in the stand – I just wish my late father could have been here as well.”
