French midfielder Timothée Diéng has signed for the Latics on a two-year contract with an option of a third. He was a free agent as his contract with French side Stade Brestois expired. The 22-year-old played in the victories over Curzon Ashton and Newcastle and the home draw with Melbourne City.
Manager Lee Johnson said of him, "He has been in and really impressed us. We don't just bring trialists in on a whim, we believe he's got good pedigree. He's been at Brest and his brothers are both footballers. He comes from a good family, he's a good character, good age, very athletic and we want to teach him a couple of roles. We're generally delighted because we think he could be good in League One."
"He's very smooth on the ball and can hit a diagonal pass with both feet. He defends well and can play centre half, right back or the number six position and that's what we need. Things are taking shape nicely. We have a lot of clubs in our bag if we get the ones in that we want and that's what we need."
