Athletic manager Paul Dickov has sung praise to the Latics chairman Simon Corney and to his board of directors for the backing they have given him during the January transfer window. Even with money being very tight, the manager has been able to sign up Reuben Reid, Andy Todd, Cedric Evina, Aidy White and Medi Abalimba. Other players have made way for the signings but the management have not flinched in buying out their contracts to give Dickov the best possible chance of obtaining promotion in this, his first season of management.
Dickov spoke not just for himself but also for the supporters when he said, "I would like to thank the chairman and board for the support they have given me, not only bringing in players but also keeping the ones we have which is even more important. I have been able to bring in a number of players but the club has also fended off bids for our own players. I am delighted with the squad and, when I look at the team and players on the bench, there is plenty of competition for places and we are also in a good position to push on in the league."
