The visitors went ahead after Reuben Hazell was penalised for a shove on Craig Dawson and, after Gary Jones slammed the resulting penalty against a post, O'Grady converted the rebound, while the former Latics striker added the second before Dean Furman ensured a nervy finale.
Dale defender Scott Wiseman received a very harsh straight red card for a foul on Cedric Evina, and, coupled with the penalty that led to the opening goal, it meant Dickov was scathing in his assessment of Taylor.
Dickov said: "The referee spoilt the game. I'm not sure that Rochdale should have had a penalty and their red card near the end was ridiculous. It tells you something when a visiting player is sent off in a local derby and the home fans sing 'You don't know what you're doing'.
"It's a shame the fans and managers are talking about a so-called Premier League referee instead of a good derby game and an excellent performance from us. We were the better side from start to finish and I could not have asked for any more effort.
"Credit to Rochdale for doing a job on us but they hardly had a shot and we created a lot around the box. It just wouldn't go for us but I am delighted with my players and the better side lost."
