The Latics had a comfortable win in the pre-season friendly at Curzon Ashton on Monday night. New boy Sidney Schmeltz and an own goal by Connor Hampson gave the visitors a 2-0 half-time lead which they maintained. James Tarkowski made a brilliant left wing run to set up the opening goal – it was devastating to watch.
Adam Rooney came off the bench to give the large following band a glimpse of his skills and manager Lee Johnson hopes to sign him when his legal dealings over his Swindon contract is over. He commented, “He is dangerous. He plays the right ball at the right time, he has a good spring and he is mobile. I like the flashes of what he showed out there.” Next up is Macclesfield Town at Boundary Park on Saturday.
