Latics owner Simon Corney has stated that he will resign if Oldham Athletic get relegated at the end of the season as he would consider it as ‘a personal failure.’ In an interview to the Manchester Evening News he said:
“I would consider it a personal failure and have little option other than to fall on my sword. I would step down as chairman and seriously consider handing the club to the supporters who would have to ensure it ran within its means. Contrary to what some people believe the budget is at least the same as last year and there has been a huge amount of added expenses this year - not least of all having to pay off several players after disappointing performances. I have, and always will maintain, an open-door policy and am disappointed some of the harshest critics remain behind their keyboards. I would love to see them face to face so they can give me their suggestions and answers on how to make things right with the limited resources we have. Nobody is perfect but we all do the best we can and it would be nice if we were all pulling in the same direction. Lee Johnson is a talented young manager. Like all of us he has made mistakes but I hope we will survive.”
“The Football Foundation changed their policies and withdrew £700,000 funding from the new stand and that was a massive blow but we are still hoping the seats and the concourses will be open for fans at the start of next season. Fans should see steelwork going up for the Brentford game next Saturday.”
