Corney said, "We've only played five games and, honestly, the table doesn't mean a great deal. Somebody has to be top and somebody has to be bottom. Unfortunately we're bottom, but I don't take league positions seriously at such an early stage. John got it right last season and we think he'll do it again. You could say he has our vote of confidence. There aren't many positives to draw on at the moment, but the players need to work for their manager. If they do that we'll be fine, if they don't we'll continue to struggle. But it's not as though we have a substandard group of players. When everyone is fit I think our squad is one of the best in the division, but we aren't showing it at the moment. Obviously that needs to improve, but the manager has our vote of confidence at the moment and we believe he will turn it around."
"I spoke to John after the Southend game on Saturday and told him to keep his head down and just get on with it. Everyone is disappointed by the start we've made and, although I don't really look at tables until about 10 games have gone. I would also say it's important we don't lose too much ground. We consider ourselves a club with aspirations for promotion, so we can't be cast adrift from being play-off candidates."
"I'm more concerned than I was 12 months ago because last year we were losing but playing well. I've been at five games so far this season and there's no point hiding the fact that our performances haven't been good. You ask yourself why and maybe they need a bit more time to gel but the players are definitely under-performing. We've got enough talent in our squad to turn it round quickly, but it's difficult to do that when you are always conceding goals."
