Chopra to become a Latic?
Last updated : 29 March 2006 By Dave Moore
Michael Chopra the Newcastle United striker has been targeted as a summer transfer target by Ronnie Moore who had tried to sign him on loan before the transfer deadline. Chopra will be out of contract this summer and if Athletic happen to win promotion to the Coca-Cola Championship they would need to strengthen their squad and Moore sees him as the ideal kind of person who would strengthen his team.
The former England under-21 international has only scored twice for Newcastle as his first team chances have been limited. Chopra is down the pecking order as Alan Shearer, Michael Owen and Shola Ameobi all figure more in the current Magpie team. He went on loan to Barnsley last season and hit 17 goals in 39 outings for the Yorkshire team. This season he is the Newcastle reserves leading marksman with 13 goals.
