The Latics have taken Edijs Joksts, a Latvian centre-back, on a deal which will keep him at Boundary Park for the coming season. Joksts is 6ft 5in and an under-21 Latvian international. The Latics PlayerShare scheme will help to pay his wages for the 12 months.
Latics boss Lee Johnson looks at Joksts as an investment for the club as he impressed in the 2-2 draw at Leigh against Dinamo Bucharest last week. He also linked up with the rest of the squad for last week’s army camp training session.
Barry Owen of PlayerShare said, “The manager always has the opportunity to come to the Trust for help with the signing of players. As a payment for a player who has a bright future, we were only too happy to be able to help.”
The defender is included in tonight's Athletic squad which will travel to Curzon Ashton for the friendly.
