Alex Bruce has upset many of the Latics fans for his (apparently pre-arranged) recall to Birmingham by his dad Steve Bruce. No sooner had he returned to Brum than he had signed for one of our rivals, Sheffield Wednesday, on loan until the end of the season. Ronnie Moore commented, “As Dean Holden is back after injury, I couldn’t guarantee Alex a regular place and his father thinks he can get him fixed up with another club.” Paul Sturrock added, “I have followed Alex's career closely and seen him in a lot of reserve games. He is a right-back but can play anywhere across the defence and he did very well in his spell with Oldham. He was outstanding in the TV game against Bolton.” Bruce made a total of eight appearances for the Latics.
