Boundary Park hoodoo strikes again

The hoodoo of Boundary Park struck again as the Latics failed miserably as they fell to a 0-2 reverse against Walsall. Latics boss John Sheridan puts the blame down to inexperience but he's the man who picks the team and he should know that the team needs a blend of youth and experience. In reality, the Latics just seem to go to pieces when they play at home and seem to be building up a complex that just doesn't ring right with the once formidable Boundary Park. Too many teams see a visit to Oldham as easy pickings and it needs sorting out quickly. Scott Dann and Michael Ricketts (pictured) did the damage for Walsall as they extended their run to eleven away games without defeat and in the process they concluded a similar all time run for the Latics.

Sheridan told Latics World, "We've got a very young team, and I think you could tell that by looking at the game today. We've been on a good run, but we're not in a position I like because I want to try and get up there and do well. Watching the game, I said to Tommy Wright 'you can tell we've got a young team', because in games like that where teams make it difficult you need that little bit of craft and guile. When the lads make a mistake, they shouldn't worry about it. Just get on with the game, because all players makes mistakes. Good players just get on with it and don't let making mistakes get to them. I think one or two of our players gave the ball away and did let it get to them, and you could see that today."

"We had some good chances in the first half and should have done better, but couldn't get back in the game at the right time. Walsall were very professional and we didn't cause them too many problems, and that's disappointing. I think we took the game to them in the first half, but we don't hit the dangerous areas and apart from Lee Hughes there's not many people in the right place at the right time to put the ball in the net. We can't keep just relying on Lee."
