Blitz backs Shez

Simon Blitz has added his backing after the best season in some time, and has given a big vote of confidence to manager John Sheridan. Blitz told the official website, "Of course everyone's disappointed, but you know what? If we go back to when we appointed John as manager last May, I think we'd have all taken losing in the playoffs. Expectations were high, but hopefully we'll start next season and do it all over again. You have teams like Bristol City who are always in contention and Swansea who didn't quite make it this time around but are pretty consistent. Then you've got teams such as Brentford who made it to the play-offs a few times, and psychologically I think it can be hard to get going again. However, if you bring in some new faces then they're not part of what happened this season, they should bring some fresh impetus. If we believe that we probably slightly overachieved this year, then maybe next year will be our year."

"We're trying to keep everyone we believe is right for this club, that includes Richie Wellens and Chris Porter, but whether they stay or not isn't always in your hands. Players might move on, they can't always think about us and have to consider themselves. Obviously we'd like to keep both Richie and Chris, and with Sean Gregan at the back there's a foundation there and we've got everything we need to build around them. We'll be backing John 100%. We've already eyed some targets, and will start making some phone calls over the next few days and weeks with a view to getting some new faces in for the new season."
