Blakemore and Moore sum up

Both managers gave their sum up on what has been an enthralling First Round FA Cup tie. It was just what the cup is about. The David v Goliath, and could have turned into the biggest ever FA Cup shock due to the relative league placements of both thems. However, to their credit, the Latics came through and maintained their excellent record against non-league opposition in the tournament.

Ronnie Moore was full of praise and said, "Chasetown were a credit to their manager. Charlie has a good side and they play with the right spirit. The support for an F.A Cup game was also magnificent. It was closer than we thought it would be early on that's for sure! I think it was a credit to Chasetown. Only for a great save by Chris Day before half time and we could have been going in at 1-1 but once we got the second goal their was only ever going to be one team that would win it. In the first 30 minutes we needed something to break the dead lock because neither side looked like they were going to put the ball away, so we changed the patterns and once we adjusted, it paid off. All in all Chasetown and their support were magnificent. Everybody apart from the Oldham fans were hoping we were going to get stuffed. Luckily for us we did the right thing but that's what the F.A Cup is all about. As a manager you are nervous whoever you are playing, but we are through to the second round now against Brentford and I'm hoping we can kick on."

Charlie Blakemore was gracious and admitted that the Latics fitness and class told in the end. He said, "We have had amazing support and it will stay with us for the rest of our lives. You also have to say well done to Oldham because they have handled themselves superbly and the club has been very gracious all the way through. The Oldham keeper had to make a superb save when it was 1-0 but I have said all along that all we could do was give it everything we had. It has been a great experience and a magical journey. I didn't tell the lads before, but I would have been absolutely delighted to have come here and lost just 1 or 2-0. The reality will kick in for the players when they have to go back to digging drains and fixing toilets. Now we wish Oldham luck for the rest of the competition."
