Athletic had an ambitious attempt to bring Aston Villa star Patrik Berger to Boundary Park quashed. The club were hoping to bring the experienced midfielder to Boundary Park on a loan deal but talks have now broken down.Simon Corney said of the attempt, "Obviously this turn of events is a disappointment and it didn't work out this time, but we'll be pursuing other avenues. Rest assured we will be leaving no stone unturned as we look to put together a squad which can compete at the highest levels in League One next season."
Perhaps it's as well really. With McDonald and Berger, the club would have had to bring Bunn out of retirement!
