Beckett not a lost cause - yet!

Luke Beckett may still become a full time Athletic player. Rumours are rife that Beckett is listening to all sorts of offers from other teams and he has already been liked with numerous clubs including Cardiff and Huddersfield. Sheffield United have just signed another striker which pushes Beckett further down in the pecking order. United are reported to want something in the region of £50,000, a fee that Athletic are willing to pay, so it’s down to Luke as to whether he will make a permanent drop into League One. His influence and goals ensured that the Latics avoided the drop last season and he would be a useful asset as he is a proven scorer hitting 6 goals in 9 appearances on loan.
John Breckin said, “We’re still talking to Luke and his agent, so there’s a chance of him joining us. He enjoyed it here at the end of the season and there’s no way we’ve given up yet. We’d be pushing the boat out financially, but the owners are doing everything they can to bring Luke Beckett to this club. And they have assured myself and Ronnie that the same funds will be available if this particular move doesn’t come off. They realise the need for a quality striker, so we’ve already been speaking to a few other lads who, hopefully, would be of the same calibre as Luke. Everybody wants a goalscorer. That’s why they never come cheap but I’m confident we’ll get there in the end.”
