Athletic's Luke Beckett has been given a boost as his scans have confirmed that he has damaged his medial ligament and not his cruciate ligament. The news means that he should be back in full training within two months. Ronnie Moore said, “Thankfully it isn’t the worst scenario which would have meant Luke being out injured for at least six months. We’ll still miss him for a while but, fingers crossed, he’ll be back some time in October and give the side an extra dimension.”
Defender Chris Swailes was due to resume training soon after damaging his ankle, but a setback means that he could be out for up to eight weeks. Striker Chris Porter is also having treatment after damaging his knee in the warm-up at Crewe but he should be fit for Saturday’s first game of the season at home to Yeovil Town.
