Stuart Balmer will be leaving Athletic on loan to Scunthorpe United. Balmer is currently training at Glanford Park and hopes that a deal can be finalised so he can play in the third division game against Cambridge United on Saturday. Thedefender is finding it increasingly difficult to make the first team and has been told he can go for free if a suitable offer comes along.
The loan period will initially be for a month and Balmer will be the third player to leave Boundary Park, as Shaun Garnett (Halifax) and David Reeves (Chesterfield) are currently out on loan. Wages could be the stumbling block for Scunthorpe as they would struggle to match his current wages but there is a chance of the loan deal being extended. At 33, Balmer would be interested in a permanent transfer if it could be arranged.
