Athletic to join new U17 league?

Athletic have expressed an interest in becoming involved with Port Vale's plan to begin an Under-17 league next season. The Valiants proposed the scheme after a meeting of league clubs and now have to wait for the Football League managing committee to agree to the plan.
Rotherham United, Walsall, Preston North End, Stockport County, Tranmere Rovers, Notts County, Lincoln City, Chesterfield, Shrewsbury Town and Mansfield Town have all expressed an interest in becoming involved. Another major decision by Port Vale is to scrap their reserve team and arrange friendly games to keep squad players fit instead.
