Latics skipper Matty Appleby was due to make a return for Athletic in last nights reserve defeat at home to Burnley (0-1) after a thigh injury and suspension has kept the midfielder out of action recently. Unfortunately Appleby was withdrawn from the reserves squad at the last minute suggesting that he had some reaction to his injury which had impaired his recovery.
