Appleby signs a permanent contract

Athletic have completed the signing of Barnsley midfielder Matty Appleby. He has already played seven games on loan for the Latics and Appleby has impressed Mick Wadsworth enough for him to make the move permanent.
He agreed terms over the weekend for the free transfer after a routine medical. Appleby’s loan spell ran out on Saturday and he will be needed for the Tranmere game as Athletic could be without five midfield players. Tony Carss and Wayne Gill remain on the injured list. Lee Duxbury is ruled out and the two Sheridan brothers are also doubtful.
