Another new striker before season starts?

Athletic are hoping to sign another striker before the new season embarks. Having taken Lourenco on loan for a full season Iain Dowie knows that there has been a shortage of goals in the pre-season games. The new target man is
thought to be a first-division forward with Premiership experience.

Dowie commented, “We’re trying to bring someone in to freshen up the squad and give us that bit extra. Although the strikers are working really hard and I can’t fault them for effort, it’s crying out for us to get a few goals. At Doncaster, Carlo ran himself into the ground and there were good chances for him and Tony Carss, so on another day we would have scored. We were really dominant, especially in the second half, and we again did well defensively. We were solid throughout with lots of positives, and it’s not about winning these games anyway. Doncaster were strong and there were a few tackles flying in, which gave the game a good competitive edge.”

The worrying fact is that Reeves is the only striker to score in six pre-season games.
