Just when the Latics fans thought it couldn't get any worse - it did, and the club literally hit rock bottom. Stephen Robinson spoke of his disappointment after the 2-0 home reverse against Southend which left his team rooted at the bottom spot in the league. He commented,
“I’m very disappointed. There were four or give players who were uncognisable from what we seen on Tuesday night and what we seen on Saturday. There seems to be a real fear factor of playing at home and I can’t put my finger on it. How can 3,500 fans intimidate players and I thought the crowd were really good today. They didn’t get on the boys back and I probably would have done. If you can’t pass from five yards teach other then you are going to lose football matches. I don’t think the fans put the players under any undue pressure and there is no excuse for not doing the simple basics right.”
“I think the sequence at the end of the game rounds off our season so far. We hit the crossbar, we miss from three yards and we mis-kicked one and that’s where are are. We do a lot of good stuff without any end product at all. You ask every player in there and they know what I want from them but being able to produce that week in, week out. It seems like they can only do it for one performance and then for the next three or four games not produce it so the levels of consistency aren’t there.”
