Allen compliments his team

Cheltenham Town manager Martin Allen watched his team throw away a two goal lead, but was very complimentary about his players. He told the press after the game, "It was a great position to be in at half time, and if anything we had enough chances to be out of sight at half time. It was a superb first 45 minutes and the best we've played since I have been at Cheltenham Town. The players were terrific, but when you are out of the habit of winning, being 2-0 up at the interval can be a dangerous position to be in, emotionally and physically."

"I thought Oldham got on top in the second half, and when it went to 2-2 our players could have crumbled and fallen to defeat, but the opposite happened. We went forward with more belief, hit the post, had one save from four yards and didn't get a blatant penalty. It was a great cup game. The important thing is to stay in the competition, and we are still in it. It was only a few months ago that this team were battered 4-0 at Boundary Park, so they have come a long way in a short space of time. I have no complaints with our players - they did very well. We have young boys in the team. Tiredness crept in during the second half but that's going to happen when you get 17, 19-year-olds playing cup football."

"The Scott Murray penalty shout was absolutely blatant, and there was another shout towards the end. We didn't get it, but we haven't had the luck of the draw with referee's since I've been here. But we can't influence that; we have to concentrate on our on players and that level of performance and we will pick up points in the league. The players are disappointed. They want to win games but I'm not. But I walked in there and told them how proud I am. That first half performance is all I could have asked. Absolutely terrific. A lot of these players have had to move to Cheltenham, into flats, bedsits or sleep on sofas. It's difficult. For Lewis Montrose and Josh Payne to move out of Manchester and London and come and live down here where it's all posh is terrific. So I can't have a go at them when they're getting cramp from the side of the pitch because it's a massive step to come from reserve and youth football to come here and play good sides like Oldham Athletic."
